Is the 50 mA needed when programming the internal flash memory?

Latest Updated:10/29/2005

Question:

Is it correct to assume that when programming or erasing the internal flash memory, the 3.3 V-system's operating power supply current plus 50 mA is needed?

Answer:

Because almost all peripheral modules except the RAM and CPU are turned off while programming or erasing the internal flash memory, the total amount of the 3.3 V-system power supply current during programming/erasing is not simply a sum of the power supply current of the 3.3 V-system plus that of the flash module (50 mA).
The electrical characteristics in the user's manual list the following standard values separately:

(1) Maximum rated 3.3 V-system power supply current when operating in single-chip mode

(2) Power supply current that may possibly flow in each power supply pin (as shown in Notes)

Therefore, refer to the maximum rated power supply current in (1) for the current consumption, and refer to the individual power supply in (2) for the power supply design.
