Jitter

Latest Updated:08/01/2005

Question:

Jitter

Answer:

Jitter refers to the unintended variation of a pulse signal in the time axis direction.
Jitter is caused by noise, irregular rotation of a disk drive, variation in the responsiveness of a device, phase shifts due to reflection within optical fiber, and so on.
Jitter that exceeds the sampling point will cause abnormal reproduction of bit strings.

Skew is a fixed type of deviation that is caused by circuit delay, whereas jitter varies according to environmental factors, etc.
